Care of Balinese Cat
The Balinese is generally a very active, intelligent, affectionate and particularly social, medium-sized cat. Balinese kittens enjoy playing and are very curious, so it is important that you have lots of toys, scratching posts and enrichment ideas ready to keep them entertained and stimulated.
They also crave company. They are not a cat that would suit being left alone for long periods at a time, and this could result in them becoming distressed and possibly exhibiting destructive behavior. With proper introductions, they are a breed that can live well alongside children, dogs, and other pets. They are often a popular choice as a family cat.
The Balinese has a medium length, silky coat, and while they do shed seasonally, their coat does not require too much maintenance. They don’t have an undercoat and this means they are not so prone to getting tangles or mats. A good brush out of any loose, dead hair around once a week should be enough to keep their coat in good condition.
With their bright blue eyes, large ears, impressive plumed tail, and muscular physique, they are a strikingly beautiful and athletic creature. Their large ears may need a little more attention paid to cleaning than some cats though.
Some Balinese lovers claim that they are a hypoallergenic breed. There is no scientific basis behind this though. The fact that the Balinese does not have an undercoat means that they shed less and this could minimize a potential allergic reaction, but it is certainly no guarantee.
Diet and Nutrition
Balinese, like any cat, should be fed a high-quality diet that is appropriately portion-controlled to avoid any weight-related health problems. They are known for being picky eaters so you may find they are more inclined to eat a wet diet than dry kibble. If they are on a wet diet, they may need a more regular dental hygiene regime to prevent them from developing gum disease.
Personality
The Balinese cat for sale is an active, vocal cat as befits a Siamese descendent. Cat trees and high perches are necessary equipment when you live with a Balinese. If these are not provided, the Balinese will make anything tall her own special perch; her slender figure conceals a powerful jumper. You may find her leaping effortlessly to the top of your refrigerator, bookcases and even the tops of doors.
Appearance
The Balinese is essentially a floofy Siamese. He has a medium-to-long silky coat that resists matting and lies close to his body, emphasizing his slim build. This coat is white or cream and color-pointed in the same traditional colors as the Siamese: blue, chocolate, seal, and lilac. Their tails are plumed or stiff, with hair matching the rest of their points.
Balinese cats are lithe, delicately built cats with strong hind legs that make them excellent jumpers (don’t be surprised if yours is staring down at you from the top of your kitchen cabinets). Balinese eyes are almond-shaped and a brilliant, clear sapphire.
Health
The Balinese are a relatively healthy breed with a long lifespan of 15–20 years. They are, however, susceptible to similar health conditions as the Siamese, Bonk says.
Balinese cats can have a number of eye issues, including progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), which is a degeneration of the retina in the eye. Cats with PRA can become near- or far-sighted over time, or even blind. Balinese cats can also be cross-eyed, Bonk says.
